Texas A&M Freshman Runs 1:25.80 To Take Down Collegiate Record

The Athing Mu Era at Texas A&M is just getting started, but it's already making waves. 

The freshman star from New Jersey ran 1:25.80 in the 600 meters Saturday at the Aggie Indoor Invitational, which is slower than her own American record but faster than anyone has ever run the distance in college.

Mu's time surpasses the 1:26.56 posted by Tennessee's Delisa Floyd on a 200-meter banked track in 1981. It's also better than the 1:26.34 that Raevyn Rogers of Oregon ran on an oversized track in 2016. 

Mu opened for Texas A&M last weekend in the 800 and she ran 2:01.07 at the Ted Nelson Invitational to move to No. 5 on the all-time collegiate list. 

Any time Mu steps to the starting line to race in the 600 there is a world-record watch in effect, because as a prep in 2019 she won the U.S. Indoor title in New York in 1:23.57, an American record and No. 2 all-time.
